Joliet intersection will close for improvements near Love’s Travel Stop

The intersection of Briggs Street and New Lenox Road will partially close for a week starting Tuesday for road construction, the city of Joliet announced.The intersection will be closed to traffic heading west on New Lenox Road, a city spokeswoman said. It will remain open for Briggs Street traffic.The intersection is expected to fully reopen on Nov. 17, the city said in a news release.The work is being done outside the Love’s Travel Stop that opened in May at the Interstate 80 interchange with Briggs Street.Love’s Travel Stops is funding infrastructure improvements around the fuel center, including the intersection work.Access in and out of Love’s has been challenging since it opened, and the intersection improvements were planned as part of the project.A right-turn lane is being added on Briggs, which should improve access to Love’s.
